Chromatography

We did the Chemistry version of tie-dye today in class. It is really simple. Pick a shape. Put it inside the t-shirt, wrap the material tightly around it, use a sharpie marker to color a dot in the middle, drop rubbing alcohol on the dot and watch it spread. The alcohol separates the pigments that make up the color so even though you might have a purple dot, the colors that spread could be pink, blue, even green. It's interesting for the kids to see. And, of course, there's always that one boy who is such a ... BOY!

You might remember the time one of them did this:
He thought he was so clever rolling his dirt into the shape of turds. Look at that smile!

Then there was the time one of them asked me how long they had to date a girl before they could fart in front of her.

And now today there's this:
Yep. Nipple boobies on his chemistry t-shirt.

This is my life.
